I guess Lindsey Lohan was needed to resurrect me from my long absence.
It's funny that with so many more important things happening in our
world the media is slobbering over LL stint in jail. I have seen entertainment
news' "breaking news" on what LL will be eating, wearing and what her routine
will be in jail. Please! and her mami is crying about the fact that jail is only for murderers and rapist. No mami, jail is for people who break the law. Maybe if you hadn't been bringing your pobre little LL on your cougar prowls when she was younger
things might have turned out much differently for your little princesa.
The reality is that due to California jail's overcrowding problem LL
will probably do less than one week, which will free up her calendar so that she
can continue partying it up! If you ask me what this little girl needs are parents who have their child's best interest at heart, friends who will keep her from committing stupid mistakes y un buen par de nalgadas when she needs them. So what do you think?

I joined the Mia Mariu team. Like most of you out there, when I find something good I keep it. Year’s back I started using the Ultima II makeup that I found at JC Penney’s everything was fine until the makeup God’s decided to ruin my life. The makeup line that I fell in love with was discontinued. I was lucky enough to find my makeup on Ebay, so I went this route for about 3 years. I would buy up all the makeup that I could find. Late last year my stash ran out and I went on Ebay to buy up what I could find. I did find a gold mine of makeup at $65.00 a bottle---Que!!. The God’s were toying with my emotions. I refused to fork out $65.00 for 1 bottle of makeup when the same bottle originally sold for $21.00 at Penneys. I always had problems finding the right shade for my skin color. Makeup was too dark or too yellow, red. There was not enough coverage or too much coverage. I spent about two months on Sephora website looking for makeup; I was at the local drug store buying up different types of makeup. It was a lost cause; my bathroom looked like a makeup graveyard. One day while surfing the web I came across the Mia Mariu website. I was intrigued, I kept reading and I liked what I was reading. I decided to join this company that many people haven’t heard about. Amigas, today is a day that we should all be very proud of! Latina’s have made history. Sonia Sotomayor is the first Latina and only the third woman to be named as a Supreme Court judge, and like any proud Latina, she thanked her "mami" for all her hard work and helping her become the woman that she is today. Our own daughters now have someone to look up to and say "I want to be like her." It is now our job to make sure that they know that in this country everything is possible if you follow your dreams and never forget where you came from. "Yes, we did it."

En Serio?-Are you Serious?

I was watching the news the other day and I saw this story about a woman who is suing the college she had graduated from because they had failed in finding her a job. The 27-year old grad is suing Monroe College for the full cost of her tuition-over $70,000. My opinion is if she does manage to win this suit, she should be required to give her degree back…only fair.

I truly believe that we live in the best country in the world, but when I learn about stuff like this, it makes me very upset. Here we are in the worst economic recession EVER and this chick has the nerve to sue for something so stupid...she is now going to use up precious tax payer money to fight this frivolous law-suit in court when we all know that there are more important cases that should take priority.

So now that everyone knows who she is do you think she has a better chance of finding a job? Most employers out there would probably run the other way for fear of her suing them if they piss her off. Cuidado with this one!

Does this mean Spanx has a lawsuit coming their way?...Hmm, they didn't make me look like Salma Hayek...I'll let you know how this one turns out...I have my lawyer on the phone.

Si estoy viva-Yes I am alive

OK, don't worry everybody, I am still alive well at least barely with this horrible triple digit weather that we have been having lately. We finally got a break (now only in the 90’s) feels like heaven.

Things I have been doing since March...

Found my "crafty" side. I finally took out the sewing machine that my mom gave me about 3 Christmas' ago...and made my little princess a skirt.

I was solely responsible for keeping Amazon.com in business for the last quarter. I have bought so many different craft books that I can now start my own library.

I learned to crochet. I remember my mom used to crochet when I was younger and was amazed at how she could carry on a conversation with us (actually yell at us) and not lose count of her stitches (I am working on becoming this good, I have the yelling part down pat).-Currently making some fingerless gloves for my little boy.

Losing weight...my co-workers and I are doing the acupuncture/B14 shots with the Chinito doctor. According to him the goal is to "shrink your stomach to the size of your fist" this is accomplished by eating small portions of food, carbs are fine for breakfast and lunch but not dinner and the phrase that I hear regularly, even in my sleep..."more water more walking" (imagine this in the Chinito voice). I am down 15 pounds.

Preparing for the new school year. I have my big boy starting Jr. High and my little boy starting kindergarten (how's that for a gap?).

Some Posole-Un Posolito

The other day "macho man" (husband) woke up early Sunday morning and stated "se me antojo un posolito" -I am craving some posole. For those of you not familiar with posole, it is a "soup" made with pork butt (actually not the butt-click on the link to find out more), hominy, dried California chiles, oregano, onions and garlic. In keeping with my previous post, I substituted the fatty pork butt with chicken. Here is my recipe using chicken for those of you who would like to try it.

1 family sized package of chicken thighs

1 large can of white hominy ( there is also yellow hominy, but I prefer the white hominy).

8 large dried California Peppers (will give a little spice, but not overwhelming)

1/4 white onion

pinch of oregano

3 garlic cloves

In a large pot (will need a very large pot) boil the chicken. Once the water is boiling add the hominy. In a separate (smaller) pot boil the chili peppers. Once the peppers have come to a boil place the peppers in the blender add the onion, oregano and cloves of garlic. Puree all the ingredients. In a large mesh strainer, strain the puree until only the seeds and chili pepper skins are left (you will need to add water to strain completely). Add salt to desired taste and let all of the flavors "marry." The Posole is done when the chicken is completely cooked.

Top off your posole with finely cut green cabbage, finely chopped onion, chopped radishes and lemon juice and of course don't forget the tostadas!

P.S. If you prefer the pork posole, just substitute the pork butt for the chicken (it will take about 2-3 hours for the pork butt to be fully cooked) you want the meat to fall off of the bone. And follow the directions as shown above.

Just Like Mom-Igual Que Mama

Like many Latina's out there, I too have struggled with my weight all of my life. I have never been thin, but I struggled not to get bigger. My mom would always tell me that my genes came from my father's side of the family where the women were "grandotas" or "big boned" and tall. I always looked at pictures of my mother when she was younger (mind you she said she would fit in a size 3) and wondered why I wasn't lucky enough to have been blessed with her family's genes. Well I guess you just have to work with what you have. I think that at my 30-something years I am still obsessed with the weight issue. My co-workers and I vowed that this year we would all do the weight watchers/biggest loser thing. I know that it is important that my little girl (and boys) learn good eating and exercise habits from their mother. I came across this article and thought I would share it with you. Happy {light} eating!

A little Ripe-Un Poco Maduritos

Like I do every Sunday I go to my parent's house to visit them. I love it because I am bombarded with my favorite foods. I still remember that when I was younger, Sunday was the day that my mom cooked extra special meals like, menudo, posole, sopes, carnitas just to name a few. Now that I have my own kids they know that Sunday is the day that we will be visiting "mami" and "Antonio" (they call their grandpa by his first name). When it's time to leave, my mom always has to send me off with something. This past Sunday she gave me bananas she said that they were "un poco maduritos" or a little ripe. I smiled and took them home, I knew there was no way my kids would eat them looking the way they did. I decided to make a banana cake. They loved it! So ladies…when mami gives you "ripe" bananas make banana cake! Buen Provecho!

After much thought, I finally decided to just go for it. I have wanted to start up this blog for some time now. I have found that when it come's to Latina women, the only blogs out there either have XXX in front of them or really have nothing to do with us. None of that here. Sit back relax and just chit chat about day to day stuff! I thought this would be a great way to increase "mi familia" like having 13 aunts and uncles on my mom's side and 11 aunts and uncles on my dad's side isn't enough.--So Welcome, Bienvenidas.
